just bitching

ok so this blog is pretty much just about bitching about trying to find a job. ive been trying to get a job for the last couple of months since the summer and its been so hard. i only want to work at a vet or animal hosptial since that is my major and every time i apply they never call me back. they always say they need people but they never want to hire. i know im not the most qualified person since ive never worked at a vets but how am i supposed to get the experience if they dont give me a chance. im not willing to just go to some clothing the store for a job because i really want to work with animals and get experience. ive waited so long so if anyone has some advice i would really appreciate it.

  1. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had to literally stalk my current employer. I had applied for the job in the summer just like you and he said that he needed ppl but never would email or call me back for an interview. I needed money and obviously the exeperience so i went to go volunteer at my SPCA and got a normal office job and just volunteered throughout the whole summer. Finally in September when i had emailed my current employer about my experience in the Animal Shelter he finally emailed me back(2weeks later) and told me to come in and see how i do for a day. Just be persistent. These employers do need the help but most of the time they're usually too damn busy to really sit down and have a look at you as a whole and gets blind sided by the fact that you have no experience.

  2. Yea volunteering is always a good way to get your foot in the door. And you could always do that and work some other job so you can say you have some experience working with animals and what not.

  3. I know that it's easier to get into a vet clinic if you've worked in one before or have a degree, I work in a vet clinic but I'm a licensed vet tech. You'll have to start from the ground up, meaning, offer to poop scoop, be the kennel girl, etc...and then work your way up. I do know that some vet clinics are trying to compromise and not hire as many people as they used to. Keep looking, I know it's frustrating...just apply to as many places as possible and keep all your options open.

  4. I am a conservation major and talked to upper classmen about how they found internships/jobs. Texas A M has a job list of over 500 jobs paid and unpaid. Try a google search and start applying everywhere. whether you think its what you would want to do as a career or not, it doesnt matter, you just have to get your foot in the door. SCA is another organization that no one seems to know about. The best thing to do is get applications in as early as possible preferably around January for a summer internship. Then after a few weeks follow up with a call to the person you sent it to within the company or organization.
